Manufacturer

Matsudacha
113 Minokuchi, Yachiyo-machi, Yuki-gun, Ibaraki 300-3564, Japan
Established 1898

Matsudacha is our producer's registered name for use outside Japan. Labels printed for our launch carry the romanisation MATSUDASEICHA; both refer to the same producer at the address above. Later label revisions will use Matsudacha.

Certified Organic by OMIC
JAS Organic Certification No. 1617, issued 1 May 2026 by Overseas Merchandise Inspection Co., Ltd. (OMIC), Tokyo.

Organic Matcha is named within the certified scope of this certificate. The certificate attests to the organic production method under Japan's Act on Japanese Agricultural Standards; it is not a statement about the quality or composition of the tea. A copy of the certificate is available on request.

Matsudacha is a finishing house, not a grower. Tencha — the shaded, steamed leaf that becomes matcha — is sourced from growers in Kagoshima, Shizuoka and Miyazaki, then sorted, blended and milled into powder at Matsudacha, an artisan producer working continuously in the Ibaraki region since 1898. Our organic products (STANDARD, CEREMONIAL GRADE, and CEREMONIAL GRADE Refill) are certified organic by OMIC under JAS Organic Certification No. 1617.

Country of Origin

Product of Japan. Specific cultivation regions are noted for each product in the sections below.

Allergen Information

None of our products contain any of the 9 major allergens designated by the U.S. FDA, the equivalent designated allergens under Singapore and Australian food-labelling regulations, or the 14 allergens designated under EU Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 Annex II.

Our products contain only green tea (Camellia sinensis) as a single ingredient. Manufacturing at Matsudacha is dedicated to tea processing; no dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, fish, shellfish, or other common allergens are handled at the facility.

If you have a specific medical concern (for example, sensitivity to green tea, caffeine, tea catechins, or tea polyphenols), please consult a healthcare professional before consumption. Matcha naturally contains caffeine — please refer to our Terms of Service Section 6 for detailed caffeine information.

Best-Before Date Format

Best-before dates are printed on each package in the format "B : yyyy.mm.dd" — the year appears first, followed by the month and the day.

For example, "B : 2028.01.20" indicates the tea is at its best before January 20, 2028.

All KEKKAI MATCHA products have a shelf life of 540 days (approximately 18 months) from the date the tea was packed, when stored under the recommended conditions described in each product's section below.

The best-before date reflects the manufacturer's assessment of peak freshness rather than a safety deadline. We recommend consuming the tea within one month of opening for optimal flavor. Matcha's color and flavor gradually change once air reaches the powder.

Lot Number Format

Each package carries a lot number in the format "L : yyyymmdd-X", where "yyyymmdd" is the date the tea was packed and "X" is a single letter identifying the tea inside:

  • S — Saemidori, a single cultivar (used in STARTER)
  • M — Maru, a two-region blend (used in STANDARD)
  • N — Nomu, a two-region blend (used in CEREMONIAL GRADE and CEREMONIAL GRADE Refill)

For example, "L : 20260803-S" indicates the tea was packed on August 3, 2026, and is the Saemidori tea used in STARTER.

The two lines carry different dates: L is the date the tea was packed, and B is 540 days later.

For any quality inquiry, please include the lot number and best-before date when contacting support@kekkaimatcha.com.

CEREMONIAL GRADE 30 g (Organic, in Tin)

Product Description

The top-tier organic grade in our current range. A first-flush harvest grown under roughly twenty-one days of shade, blended from two premium organic-cultivation regions to produce the smooth, sweet, umami-rich profile traditionally sought for usucha and koicha preparation. Presented in a handcrafted tin by Kato Seisakusho (established 1895, Asakusabashi, Tokyo), one of only two workshops in Japan still producing the inner lid in tinplate.

What is inside the tin

Your matcha arrives in a sealed pouch inside the tin. The pouch carries the product label, including the lot number and best-before date. You may leave the pouch inside the tin and roll it closed after each use, or empty the powder into the tin. Both are acceptable; see Caring for the tin.

Preparation (Usucha)

Sift 2 g into a chawan. Add 60 ml hot water at 80 °C (175 °F). Whisk briskly in an M-motion until frothy.

Storage

The tin. Store at room temperature, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odors. Do not refrigerate or freeze the tin. Moving metal between cold and warm air draws condensation onto the inner surface, and moisture is what dulls matcha; repeated temperature change can also mark the handcrafted finish.

The pouch. Once opened, the pouch may be refrigerated, as its label indicates. If you transfer the powder into the tin instead, keep the tin at room temperature and use the tea within one month.

To refill, use a CEREMONIAL GRADE Refill pouch. Wipe the tin gently with a soft, dry cloth before refilling.

CEREMONIAL GRADE Refill 30 g × 2

Product Description

The same certified organic ceremonial-grade matcha as the tin edition, supplied as two 30 g pouches without the tin. Intended either for refilling an existing CEREMONIAL GRADE tin, or as a standalone purchase for customers who prefer the tea without the vessel. Available as a single purchase or on a recurring subscription. Each pouch bears its own label.
