KEKKAI Matcha – Ceremonial Grade Refill | Organic Japanese Matcha Powder, 30g × 2 Pouches

Why refill. Two 30 g pouches of our ceremonial grade, without the tin. For those who already hold the KEKKAI tin, this is how you keep using it rather than accumulating vessels. For everyone else, it is the same tea at the price of the tea alone.

The tea. Identical to what goes into our CEREMONIAL GRADE tin: a blend of Yabukita and Yutakamidori cultivars from Kagoshima and Miyazaki, first-flush and shaded for roughly twenty-one days, ball-milled by Matsudacha (est. 1898), certified organic by JAS. Every note fully expressed. Every batch independently tested for heavy metals.

Shading is what separates a ceremonial tea from an everyday one. Three weeks under cover builds the amino acids that read as umami and holds back the astringency. It is most of what you are tasting.

If you have the tin. Ensure it is empty and completely dry. If any residue remains, wipe the inside gently with a soft, dry cloth — never rinse with water, as this can cause rust.

Then either empty one pouch into the tin, or set the rolled pouch inside it. Emptying it makes the powder easier to reach with a chashaku; leaving it in the pouch keeps a second barrier against air. Both are fine. If you empty it, cut the pouch straight across the top, turn the tin upside down over the opening, then turn the whole thing back over and lift the pouch away slowly — doing this over a bowl catches anything that escapes.

Seal the tin and store it in a cool, dry place away from light. Keep the second pouch sealed and refrigerated until the tin is ready to be refilled again. See Caring for the tin for full care instructions.

If you do not. Keep both pouches sealed and refrigerated, and take from one at a time. Roll the top down tightly after each use. Any airtight container will do the same job; the tin is a nicer object, not a technical requirement.

Every batch of KEKKAI matcha is verified by Eurofins, an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory. Our CEREMONIAL GRADE (Nomu) tested at 76 µg/kg of lead — well below the EU regulatory maximum for tea (1,500 µg/kg).
